When Does School Start in Branford for 2013-14?

We may be in the throes of summer, but for planning purposes, here's the rundown of the 2013-14 Branford school calendar.

It's been happening for weeks, seemingly earlier and earlier each year – back-to-school talk. With school getting out so late this year thanks to hurricanes and snow days, it seemed like we were seeing back-to-school ads as soon as the kids stepped off the bus.

And even though we're enjoying the height of summer, the 2013-14 school year is creeping closer. So when do students in the Branford School District head back? Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The students go just three days before having Monday, Sept. 2 off for Labor Day and then two more before having Thursday, Sept. 5 off for Rosh Hashanah. Longer breaks for the upcoming year include a holiday recess in December and a week off for April vacation, as well as short breaks for Thanksgiving and Presidents' Day.

The last day of school is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10 (remember, school was supposed to let out on June 12 for the 2012-13 school year!), though students can go as late as Tuesday, June 24 if there are 10 school closings. Days exceeding that will be taken from April break, starting at the beginning.

And if you have a student in elementary school, remember, school starts (and gets out) 10 minutes later this year, running from 8:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.

Check out the district's website for the full calendar. It is also attached as a PDF.
