Record Crowd Expected For Branford’s Father’s Day Road Race

The June 16th event, which includes a five-mile road race, a two-mile fitness walk and a one-mile fun run, is expected to draw more than 3,200 people.

A record crowd of more than 3,200 people is expected at Branford’s 33rd annual Father’s Day Road Race on June 16th.

The event is on the last day of the Branford Festival and begins at 9:30 a.m. on the Branford green. Last year, 3,000 runners participated, and this year more than 3,200 people have already signed up – a new record for the event.

“We’re overjoyed about the way the local running and fitness community has supported the event,” Race Director Ray Figlewski said in a press release. “Thousands of Branford residents come out each year to cheer on the participants. Thirty-three years ago we never could have imagined this level of support.”

The road race is actually composed of three events: a one-mile fun run, a two-mile fitness walk and a five-mile road race that will serve as the state championship. Connecticut’s top runners are expected to attend the event, according to a press release by the event’s organizers.

“We are dedicated to bringing Connecticut’s best athletes to Branford and making the Branford Road Race one of the best in the Country,” Figlewski said in the release.

All event participants will receive a t-shirt, food and can enjoy live music at the event. For more information and to find out how to register, visit the event’s website at branfordroadrace.net or call (203) 481-5933.
