The 2010 school year brought a new face to the Branford school system: Hamlet Hernandez. The son of Cuban refugeeMore parents, Hernandez matriculated through Hamden schools and most recently held the title of Assistant Superintendent of Hamden Schools before being appointed to his current role of Branford's Superintendent of Schools. He was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Hernandez brings with him a dedication to all students, from those enrolled in early education in the Indian Neck School programs to the seniors graduating from Branford High School. Hernandez has an open ear and mind and sees the economic and racially diverse students of Branford as "more alike than different."

"We celebrate our kids," says Hernandez as he looks forward to his future with the school system.

The Mary T. Murphy School was originally called Brushy Plain School when it was built in 1960. The Shoreline School of Art & Music is a private occupational school providing career training in the arts. It wasMore founded in 1978 by Richard and Judith Milgram and provides a variety of classes in the arts. Students can take classes in the School of Music focusing on voice, guitar, bass, piano, and a variety of string and woodwind instruments. The School of Art provides programs in illustration and creative advertising design.

The Linda B. Chipkin Early Years Center located at Indian Neck School offers pre-schooling for Branford's children,More ages 3 - 5.

The schooling offered is a collaborative effort between special education teachers, speech and language pathologists, social workers, school psychologists, occupational and physical therapists, school nurses, teachers of the hearing impaired and supporting para-professionals.

Francis Walsh Intermediate School

When Francis Walsh Intermediate School was built in 1972 — then called Branford Intermediate School — theMore facility was characterized by classrooms with no walls, emphasizing an open-space, community style of learning. Today, a number of classroom walls have been built, but the open-school feeling still exists.

WIS is one of three schools in Branford offering a school-based health center, a fully licensed health clinic designed to address the physical and emotional needs of adolescents. All students are eligible to enroll and receive services free of charge.

This nonprofit, independent, parent cooperative preschool is known as the "little red school house" in the Indian Neck area of Branford.
