Since 1964, the Branford Fire Department has been located on North Main Street with the same address but moved to a newMore facility in 2012. Branford's fire history stretches back into the late 1800's with bucket brigades but in 1901 the town officially purchased land on Hillside Avenue to erect a fire station. With 35 career firefighters and 100 volunteers today, the fire department is busy around the clock helping the community and ensuring the safety of all with Branford resident, Chief Jack Ahern in charge.

First Selectman Anthony "Unk" DaRos got his nickname in second grade, and has been active in governing public affairsMore since his first term as first selectman in 1997. The Branford native has experience as an inventor, stone mason, firefighter, Eagle Scout and U.S. Navy veteran. Branford is governed by a three member administration, and DaRos serves with Selectman Francis Walsh and Selectman John E. Opie. The First Selectman's Office works in conjunction with Branford's Board of Finance and Representative Town Meeting to make decisions. The office meets the first and third Wednesday of every month.

This fire station is located in Short Beach and is an all-volunteer outfit. Captain Eric Wagner leads his team of 22More firefighters.

The company was organized in 1911, just a few years after the main fire department in town was formed. According to the Branford Fire Department website, "the town of Branford supplied several lengths of fire hose and a nozzle, which were kept in Edward Knowles grocery store. A chapel bell would be rung to alert the volunteers when there was a fire."
