Captain's Log: Week 19 & 20 - Creeping up on the Close

Organic gardening at the end of the season.

The blast of sticky hot weather has quelled my fear of peppers dying on the vine due to cold.  My new problem is the constant flow of peppers - literally, like plastic shopping bags full of serranos and habaneros.  I gave two stuffed plastic baggies to neighbors, made more salsa that I froze (we'll see how that ends up) and still they come.  My new idea is to make flavored oils.  I'm on the search for the perfect bottles and then my shiny habaneros will infuse their deadly heat into oil I can use for cooking.

Though the pepper plants are still going strong, the tomatillos are done and I'm letting them die out naturally.  The tomato plants are monuments to my disappointing harvest and I'm leaving the cages up until I go in there full force to prep the garden for next year.  Still, it looks like the garden has its own haves and havenots dynamic going on with one side still lush and the other dying slowly.  My own little microchasm.
