In a Nationwide push to promote drug and alcohol awareness and to create an event promoting activities that will encourage Branford's children to "Take A Step" toward a healthier and wiser life style , the town of Branford will once again sponsor for the sixteenth year in a row, "Take A Step Day" at the Branford Community House on Tuesday, April 9, 2013.  From 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., all residents are encouraged to come to the Branford Recreation Department and sign the "Take A Step Roll Call Banner" inside the Joe Trapasso Gymnasium , signifying unification for an "addiction free"community.  A poster contest will also highlight the festivities featuring the local grade schools in the community.  An Open House will take place in the evening  from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and all families are strongly encouraged to attend.  Members from the Branford Counseling Center, Branford Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking, the Branford Recreation Department, the Branford Police Department, the Branford Fire Department, and other agencies will have booths and be on hand to answer any questions those in the town might have on drug and alcohol awareness.  Winners of the poster contest will be announced at the conclusion of the open house and will be given awards at that time.  For more information, please contact the Branford Counseling Center at 481-4248.  Parents are asked to visit the Recreation Department with their children and be part of the support system against drugs and alcohol in our society.
