This Year's Chamber Lobster Clambake a Hit

Staple Summer Event Changes Location

More than 220 people turned out for this year’s hosted by the . This event has become a tradition for many and has made a mark as a stamp of summer.

This year’s event still featured plenty of lobsters, steamers, and clam chowder to go around but there was one major difference. This year’s event was held at the , although the Clambake had become a staple of the Owenego’s event roster.

Traditionally, the Chamber would host the clambake the day after . The Chamber and Camp Rising Sun would then be able to share the cost of the oversized outdoor tent necessary for hosting events of such magnitude. That arrangement however was leaving the Clambake with a Thursday night date - a night in direct conflict with the widely attended Jazz on the Green.

“It was nothing about the Owenego,” says Branford Chamber President Ed Lazarus, “we love the Owenego. These were two big events in a row and it felt counter-productive to try and compete in small town.”

Despite the change, many people seemed thrilled with another knockout event by the Chamber. “I received all sorts of calls and notes this morning from people who enjoyed themselves. It was a new facility and a learning experience, but it’s tough to go wrong with lobster and a beautiful night.”

Although celebrating the success of this year’s Clambake, they are on to planning the next event.

Join the Chamber with their Wine Stroll scheduled for Thursday Aug. 23 preceding the last Jazz on the Green performance. Running from 4:30PM to 6:30PM, people can purchase a $20 ticket to visit the ten participating shops and restaurants in the center of town. The shops will be treating everybody to light snacks and opportunities to try an assortment of different wines. The Stroll will begin at Donovan’s Reef.

“We’ll even throw in the concert,” jokes Lazarus. Stay tuned for this and more exciting updates from Branford Chamber.
