Get Ready, Branford: Severe Weather On Its Way

Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact the shoreline throughout the remainder of the day.

After suffering over the last several days, relief is on its way for the rest of the week — but not before a string of severe storms are expected to impact the state throughout the remainder of this afternoon and this evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the northern portion of New Haven County until 3:45 p.m. A flood watch was also issued in relation to this storm.

Branford, as well as most of the rest of the state, is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 pm.

"Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible... with a threat for torrential rain, damaging winds and hail," the meteorologists wrote in their report.

"Flash flooding is also possible as the moist atmosphere will allow these storms to produce 1 to 2 inches of rainfall in a short amount of time. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is also expected," the weather service warned.
