Scholar Leaders Honored, A Friend Remembered & Good Sports Recognized

Good sportsmanship and character recognized in Branford.

High School Scholar Leaders Honored

The Southern Connecticut Conference recently honored two Branford High School students as Scholar-Leaders in their communities. Emily Owen and Austin Day, both seniors, were honored by the SCC for demonstrating "outstanding scholarship and leadership in their school and external communities."

Although the SCC did not mention athletics, it is worth noting that Owen and Day are both active participants in the high school sports scene. Owen was captain of the field hockey team and has thrown the javelin for the track team. Day plays hockey and is a member of the sailing team in the spring. He also ran cross country in the fall

Remembering a Dear Friend

Branford High School lost a special member of its community recently Rollo was the longtime athletic secretary at the high school. In that position, nearly any student who played a sport had contact with her in some way. She was responsible for organizing team schedules, assisting the athletic directors, and coordinating the necessary paperwork for all players.

Rollo also did a lot of the behind the scenes things in the athletic department, such as helping put together end of the year materials for teams, organizing the halftime snacks for volunteers at home football games, and fielding phone calls the athletic office.

She was a special person, one who always had a smile on her face or a kind word for a visitor or friend. She will be sorely missed.
