Hornets Continue to Shine in Postseason

The Branford High School dance team wins New Englands, diver Dean Conte wins states and hockey and boys' basketball end their season in states.

 

Branford athletes have a lot to be proud of with the winter 2012-13 season with many teams and athletes making their marks in state tournament action.

Dean Conte recently won the Class M State Championship in diving to earn a spot competing at the State Open, which will be held on March 14 in Middletown.

The dance team, which recently won its seventh straight hip hop state title, moved on to the New England Regional Championship where the Hornets took home the title. 

In boys' basketball action, 13th-seeded Branford beat 20th-seeded East Catholic 65-61 in the first round before falling to Cross, the No. 4 seed, 51-44 on March 7.

In the Division II state hockey tournament, Branford, the No. 5 seed, started with a 4-0 shutout of 12th-seeded Fermi-Enfield- East Granby - Stafford on March 5. In the quarterfinals, despite a solid effort, Branford dropped a 4-3 double overtime decision to 13th-seeded Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe.

According to The Sound's Facebook post, Branford cheerleading finished seventh out of 19 teams with a score of 136.8 at the Class L State Championship.
