Hammerfest Triathlon

The Hammerfest Triathlon will be held Sunday at the to benefit the Myelin Project. Founded by supporters of Branford native Brian Kelley who has ADL, the triatholon has been held for more than 10 years. Due to and the , the race course will be different from past years. Though the Sound was closed to swimmers because of high contamination levels after Irene, it will be open for Hammerfest for swimmers, per East Shore District Health Department's sanction.

SWIM

  • The course will be a counter-clockwise swim at the Owenego Beach Club in Branford.
  •  
  • When swimming all buoys must be kept to your left.
  •  
  • All swimmers must wear the correct color swim caps issued at registration.
  •  
  • There will be three or four swim waves about 3 minutes apart.
  •  
  • If you are in trouble, wave your hand and the nearest lifeguard will provide assistance.  

    BIKE
  •    
  • The distance listed on the application is approximate.
  •  
  • ANSI or SNELL approved helmets are mandatory and must be fastened before mounting your bike and remain fastened until the rider has dismounted. Any violation of this rule will result in an automatic 5-minute penalty.
  •  
  • The bike course is fairly flat and very fast with few turns. It will be a double loop course.
  •  
  • Absolutely NO DRAFTING!!! Violators are subject to disqualification. Officials on motorcycles will be roaming the course and penalties will be assessed
  •  
  • No crossing the centerline of the road
  •  
  • The road will be open to traffic. There will be police at all major intersections and volunteers along the remainder of the bike route. All athletes must obey the Police and course monitors.
  •  
  • THERE WILL BE NO RIDING IN THE TRANSITION AREA; THIS WILL BE ENFORCED. 

    RUN
  •    
  • Leaving Owenego Beach Club runners will be directed left into the Pawson Park Area of Branford.
  •  
  • All runners must wear their numbers on the front of your body.
  •  
  • Water will be available at the transition area and at two points on the run course.
  •  
  • The run course is flat and fast.
