Senior short-stick specialist Nate Fortezzo (Branford) of the Norwich University men’s lacrosse team has been named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American, as announced by the USILA on Tuesday.

Fortezzo adds this title to a successful season that saw him earn Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference First Team honors and rank in the top 10 of Division III in face-off winning percentage.

The senior captain led the Cadets in a number of categories this season, including face-off wins (187), face-off winning percentage (68 percent) and ground balls (109).

Fortezzo graduated on May 11 with a degree in engineering management and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.47. During his senior year, he ranked as a First Lieutenant in the NU Corps of Cadets. On May 12, he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

To be considered for the USILA Scholar All-America team, the student-athlete must “be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.” In addition, the student-athlete “will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field.”
