The team will play Southington Friday in the American Legion state finals.

Stamford -  Wednesday, despite falling behind by four runs early, Branford's American Legion baseball team stormed back to defeat Cheshire, 7-6, to capture the American Legion Southern Division title.

The victory means that Branford (27-1) will play Southington starting Friday in a best-of-three series for in the American Legion State Final at Cubeta Stadium in Stamford. The New Haven Register reports that Branford was down 4-0 against Cheshire after four innings because of some sloppy play, but managed to put together a five-run rally in the seventh inning to take control of the game.

“It felt like it wasn’t our day at one point,” Branford Coach Rich Balzano told the newspaper. “But you play nine innings, so you’ve got a chance.”
