Branford's Mike Olt Takes the Spotlight at Futures Game

Olt is on the way up, drawing media attention.

Branford's own Mike Olt made a splash -- and earned strong national recognition -- at last night's SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

Playing for the U.S. team, Olt's performance included an RBI double in the sixth inning. Olt, who has played first and third base, is a #3 prospect for the top-ranked Texas Rangers, and he's currently ranked 34th on MLB.com's list of Top 100 Prospects.

Olt came to the Rangers from UConn as a first-round draft pick in 2010 and has been looking good in AA. According to mlb.com, Olt may not hit the Majors any time soon (thanks, obviously to the Rangers' unprecedented infield strength this season), but the organization likely won't let go of him, either.

Still, Olt's performance got noticed on Twitter, and resonated within Branford's social media community.

"#Rangers Mike Olt putting Branford on the map, and proving dreams come true. Keep it up MOlt #FuturesGame," tweeted user jgidds9.
