Branford Girls Fall Ball Team Has Winning First Season

The 2013 Branford Hornets played for their under-13 shoreline softball league's championship and finished with an overall record of 13-3.

It has been a few weeks now since the end of baseball and softball seasons.

And although many sports fans have now turned their attention to football, basketball and hockey — it's certainly not too late to congratulation a group of Branford girls for their team's winning fall league record.

Oh, and did we mention it was the softball team's first season of play?

New Branford Team

The Branford Hornets were new this year to the Shoreline Sting Fall-Ball League. The team competed within the league's Under-13 age bracket.

The Hornets, most of whom were 10 or 11 years old, finished their first season by winning their grammar school division with an 10-2 record.

They made it to the playoffs, but unfortunately lost the championship game to Durham late last month to finish with an overall record of 13-1.

'I'm Just Really Proud'

The girls' coach, Tom Cofrancesco, told Branford Patch that the group of players he put together to form the fall team were basically all-stars from the town's recreational department play this past summer.

And while the team may have been Branford's best for their age group, the Hornets were competing this fall against teams with more experienced players, many of whom are also party of travel leagues.

"I'm just really proud of these girls," he said.
