Branford 11-year-old All-stars Capture District 4 Title

It is the first time in eight years a Branford team has won a district championship

The Branford 11U Little League All-stars captured the state District 4 championship Saturday by winning eight straight games in the tournament championship. The All-stars won the final game 5-1 over North Haven on Saturday.

Throughout the tournament, Branford hit especially well, outscoring its opponents 84-15 in the eight games.

It is the first time in eight years a Branford team has won a district championship, Branford Little League president Mike Kmietek said.

The players on the team are Connor Massey, Matt Dow, Damien Maniscalco, Ben DeMaio, Anthony Burzynski, Brandon Kilfeather, Alphonse Suppa, Carson Mendoza, Ethan Boileau, Doug Harrison, James Wallace, and Eddie Zanor.

The team is coached by Steve Malafronte and assisted by Jimmy Zanor and Rob Dow.

The team next plays Thursday against Berlin in the state Section I championship tournament. The game is 6 p.m. at Foley Field in Naugatuck. On Saturday, they play Fairfield National at 10 a.m. at Foley Field. The winner of the Section I plays the winner of Section II for the Connecticut championship.
