BHS Girls' Soccer: SCC Champs!
The Branford High School girls' soccer team topped Shelton in double-overtime to win the SCC title; the boys' team lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Fairfield Prep.
The 2012 elections weren't the only competition going on last night – both Branford High School soccer team competed in the Southern Connecticut Conference Tournament finals. The girls' team took home the championship, but the boys lost a 1-0 heartbreaker.
The girls' soccer team earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament, knocking off third-seeded Hamden 4-2 in the quarterfinals and then edging Hand, the No. 7 seed, in the semifinals to face fourth-seeded Shelton.

The teams battled through a scoreless regulation at West Haven High School to send the contest into overtime. Sophomore Sara Consolo netted the game-winner on a penalty kick to give the Hornets the win and the SCC title.
Branford's junior goalkeeper, Rebecca Vitale, wads named MVP of the game.

The boys' soccer SCC finals followed the girls' contest with the third-seeded Hornets facing top-seeded Fairfield Prep, which took a 1-0 win for the championship.
