Keeping His Eye on the Bug

God Answers Post Bug Reflections

God is still speaking comfort to us today in ways that are astounding.

As is the case with many of us, my time in car is often used for reflection.  This particular morning I was puzzling over why it didn’t seem that I’d made it very far or at least far enough over the past couple of decades.  It wasn’t long before there was an answer in my path.

Crossing East Main Street was a small black bird juggling a large, winged bug as he doggedly made his way to the other side.  His focus on maintaining control over the unwilling meal kept his bird brain completely focused on his destination.  I had to stop my car to keep from running him over, and was able to watch him determinedly undertaking his mission—amazingly never taking into account the peril that would have normally caused a more sensible flight.

I wondered why he was so intent on crossing the busy road—why he didn’t just eat his dinner where he’d found it?—till I realized he was making his way with the bug to feed his young.   So intent on “bringing home the bacon”, he almost ended up “in the pan”.

Consumed with meeting not only the physical needs of our children, but also providing love and support, thoughts of self-actualization become merely a gleam in Maslow’s eye.   As our own “young” become more self-sufficient, this focus shifts back and your self questions “where have you been?”  You may answer as I did that morning with an abashedly self-conscious “I don’t know”.   But there is Someone who does know.  He has known you before your first breath and for every one after that, and He wants only the best for you.  He knows our concerns before we even voice them and has the answers to your life’s hard questions and moments of self-doubt.

But more importantly God’s focus has always been on us, and He is there waiting to answer in the most wonderful ways.

Be listening--Remember there is the One who keeps His eye on the sparrow is there to care for you.
