Walsh Softball Fields to Be Renovated; BHS Gym to Be Self-Sustaining

Mark Deming, Director of Facilities for Branford schools proposed a $410,500 budget for FY2013. The budget request includes the purchase of a new backstop and fencing for softball fields as well as renovations to the fields.
Also, , which at the present has no air conditioning, will be getting a $23,000-ventilation and dehumidification system for the gymnasium.
There is a request for $130,000 for to convert hot water from the existing tri-generation plant to heat for the gyms and locker rooms. Deming believes making this self-sustaining investment will have a two-year turnaround.

The total capital budget is requested at $805,666.
During his presentation to the , Deming expressed the need to replace the roofs of and elementary schools as well as school. Though renovated in 1991, the warranty on the elementary school roofs expired in 2001. The Board approved to move $1,875,000 already bonded for the roof projects from FY2012-14 to FY2012-13. Deming said the roofs are to be done this summer. The bonded funds do not come out of the requested capital budget.
