It's Lunchtime--Do You Know What Branford Students Are Eating Off Of?

All students who buy lunch at Branford schools now receive their lunches on Styrofoam trays. Until recently, the elementary schools used plastic trays that were washed after each use.

Chartwells, the food service provider for the Branford school system, recently switched the elementary schools from their reusable plastic trays to the Styrofoam trays that had already been in use at Walsh Intermediate School and Branford High School.

Anthony Buono, the principal at Murphy, has contacted Chartwell several times with concerns regarding the Styrofoam trays. Among those concerns, he said that the trays are meant to be recyclable, but the schools have not been provided with a system with which to recycle the trays.
