Hopeful Guinness World Record Setters Attempt to Jump to Victory

Just under 400 students at Mary R. Tisko Elementary school participated in jumping jacks at the same time in an attempt to break a world record.

Yesterday morning at the sound of ’s Alex Palluzzi’s whistle, nearly 400 elementary school students from school commenced one minute of simuntaneous jumping jacks with the hope to break the Guiness World Record. The Natioal Georgraphy Kids spondored event, which joined forces with First Lady Michele Obama’s “Let Move!” initiative, needed to have more than 20,000 kids participate in jumping jacks.

Event organizer Erin Burris, the fulltime physical education teacher at Tisko told Ali Reed of WTNH that she heard more than 20,425 people nationwide were participating. The odds were good that the record would be broken the offical results still need to be tallied.

In order for the record to be broken, more than 20,000 people of any age had to participate in jumping jacks between 3 p.m. (ET) October 11, and 3 p.m. (ET) October 12. The “Let’s Jump” website also notes that a special certificate will be offered to groups with more than 100 jumpers, i.e. Tisko school.
