The Branford Rotary Club announces its Summer Youth Student Exchange for 2012. It’s designed for teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 1/2 years, who are open and tolerant of the life styles of others, of good character, possessing a warm personality, and a desire to live abroad.

Branford Rotary’s ESSEX Short-Term Family-to Family Exchange arranges for the student’s family to host a matching international Rotary applicant during the summer. Exchanges can be arranged between the two families for not less than 3 weeks and not more than 6 weeks.  Some countries are exceptions.

Branford youths will host a student in his/her own home as well as stay in the international one. Opportunities will be provided to advance knowledge and world understanding. This is not an academic exchange, but a definite learning exchange!!

Cost of travel, the ESSEX fee, Rotary District fees, Rotary insurance, clothing and personal expenses are the responsibility of the participating students and their families. Visit www.exchangestudent.com.

Travel to the host country is arranged by each student’s family communicating with the other student’s family, determining dates, times and airlines to be booked for the exchange. Frequently, students who exchange first accompany their host sibling on the return flight home.

The earlier an application arrives, the better the chance of exchanging in a first choice country. It is also helpful for placement if one is able to host a student of either gender.

Interviews and applications are required. See branfordrotary.org for the Short-Term Exchange application. Contact Amy Koch, project leader, at 1-203/470-8281 or Alpha Coiro, Branford Rotary president, at 203/503-1829, for further information. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MONDAY, MARCH 19.
