Coaching Their Coach: Words to Inspire George Dummar

As Branford High School baseball coach George Dummar battles a life-threatening illness, friends, family and players offer words of encouragement.

Tom White said it best when likened baseball coach George Dummar’s to the closing scene of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” He’s our George, said White, of his longtime friend who is undergoing a battle against a life threatening illness.

Much like George Bailey from the classic holiday movie, Dummar recently received overwhelming support from friends, family, coaches and players who gathered at AMF Circle Lanes in East Haven for his fundraiser. Thousands of dollars were raised for Dummar as he continues to undergo medical treatments with his wife Patty by his side and as his two sons, Nick and George work their way through college as students and baseball players.

In addition to the Branford crowd, coaches from around the state as well as opposing teams’ players came to support Dummar – a 10-year veteran coach of high school baseball. Also in attendance at the fundraiser, , were current and former baseball players.
