Budget Meeting: Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace

The Branford Board of Education will present its budget to the Board of Finance this week.

If you have an opinion, if you are worried about class size, concerned about your child’s favorite teacher being cut, looking to keep more money in your pocket, you had better head out Thursday night.  The will be presenting its 2011-2012 budget to the at 7 p.m. at the .  Branford citizens should attend and learn what budget cuts might mean at their child’s school.  Expect to see many parents from who are poised to fight for their beloved gym teacher, Marco Imperati.  Imperat’s job could be cut to a half-time position due to a budget cut in the physical education department at the middle school. 

could also increase from 18.5 or 18.6 to 21 or 22.  Class size could increase by three or four students.  .  is losing one music position and one .5 physical education position. 

There is some good news in these tough economic times:  All sport programs are to remain intact and the at the high school will not be cut.

However, what if your child has thrived in the Special Friends program? What if your child is already struggling in an elementary classroom of 18 children at various academic levels? What if your child has a friend in Mr. Imperati that has made going to school a pleasure each morning? 

Now is the time to come out and let the board know what is important to you and what you are willing to pay for it.  Let’s not forget that cutbacks are all based on saving money for the town and its citizens.
