'Branford Reads' on The Green

Branford students will come together to enjoy a day of reading this Saturday.

Branford’s top readers will be awarded this Saturday on the as the  and the celebrate reading.

For the second year,  in a unique way and yes, schools’ Assistant Superintendent Mary Peraro said, e-readers will again be given to randomly selected top readers from each school, elementary to middle school.

Summer reading, said Peraro, “eliminates the summer lag and helps students maintain their skill level in reading.”

The community is invited to attend this day-long celebration of reading Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Town Green. Summer Reading Awards will be presented by local authors and there will be several contests and games for students as well as a silent auction to raise money for the BEF.

We asked Peraro what she read over the summer and we want to know what you or a student you know read (tell us in the comments). You can learn about what  reference librarian  was reading this summer in her latest blog. Ever the assistant superintendent, Peraro said she read Pathways to the Common Core by Lucy Calkins – a book dealing with common core education practices.
