Update: $4K Raised; Branford Boys Basketball Tops Shelton; Sturgess Honored

In what many have called an emotional evening, Branford's Paul Sturgess was honored and the Hornets topped their opponents.

Before beating Shelton 50 to 42, Branford High School’s boys’ basketball team recognized volunteer coach Paul Sturgess who is currently battling ALS, a neuromuscular disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

The host team went on to beat Shelton, securing an SCC interdivision win according to the New Haven Register. The register reported that “Dylan Palluzzi had 17 points and seven assists and Sam Poryanda added 13 points and 15 rebounds.” The Hornets are now 15-4. They will next face Guilford away at the Kenefick Gymnasium, 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20.

Senior Dylan Palluzzi who is the tri-captain of the team, organized a fundraising initiative for the Connecticut Chapter of ALS as part of his Senior Capstone project. The night of the game, Palluzzi raised $589; he collected $350 prior to the event as well.
