Branford's Best Auto Mechanic: Who Is It?

If your car needs to be fixed, who do you go to first and why?

Trust. It's one of the most important considerations when choosing an auto mechanic: we want to be able to trust that the business owner we turn to will do the job right, on time, and not charge us an arm and a leg.

Whether the dreaded engine light pops on, your car breaks down or it's just a regularly scheduled tune-up, we want to know where you, the Branford experts, go to get your car fixed.

Your answers will help other Branford residents find the best auto repair shop in town. So vote for your favorite in this week's Readers' Choice contest and don't forget to rate and review the business by clicking on its name below.

Here's our starter list (let us know if we missed anyone):

  • A&M Citgo
  • Branford Auto Center

Whipit Tire ..Dave and his crew are the BEST. It started with just buying tires and turned into him being my mechanic. He has taken me (and two people I have recommended him to ) with on-the-spot with emergency repairs. He is honest and timely...something that is sometime hard to find in a repair shop.

A & M service station on North Main Street is by far the best in town. They are honest, and more importantly their prices are REASONABLE! As a female, mechanics are quick to take advantage of my so called "lack of knowledge." This is not the case at A&M, Mike is down to earth, easy to talk too and respects all of his customers. I'm surprised that they are not included in this list.

Butch's Main Street Auto. Fabulous family run business. Excellent, honest, timely service.

Paul's Auto Service on Meadow Street. Pepe's on Main Street... Mainstays on the Branford Automotive scene. One wonders how these poll lists are derived before publication...

Thanks for catching those, Bill! We include what we know of on our end, but we count on the experts in the community to fill in the gaps if we miss anything.

How come European Specialists wasnt listed? As a Saab owner they have saved me a rediculous amount of money and are always lower than the dealer. They recently changed their name from Swedish Performance, but it seems like all the same people. I would recommend them to anyone, they once took the time to find the proper belt for my 1995 Saab to bypass the ac compressor. This involved measuring and calling up the Saab dealership and not charging me a dime. It's a crime to not have them up here...
Bill Keane May 22, 2012 at 11:53 AM
Is Bob still up at Euro/Swedish Performance? He's a great guy.
Bob Russell May 22, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Hi Bill, I'm still working at European Performance! Thanks for the kind words, stop by and say hi it would be great to see you.

As a Volkswagen owner, I would recommend European Speacialists. Honest, reliable and trustworthy service.

Easily A&M Service Station, Mike and Greg are the two best technicians I know, they are not there to gouge you, just to fix it right, and quickly. Two honest guys that would never sell you something you don't need.

Davis Dunavin May 22, 2012 at 05:34 PM
Thanks for your comment, Ruth. Lots of love for both A&M Citgo and European Specialists here in the comments! I think it's going to be close. Any others I missed? I'm humbled by this knowledgable crowd.

Branford Auto Center?!?! The best.
John Lear May 22, 2012 at 11:21 PM
My advise is to find a Automotive Shop you trust. There are several great shops out there and most shop do there best to be fair and honest , If you like your current shop then stick with them , if not try one that is recommended. Price shopping for auto repairs is like looking for the cheapest heart doctor ,not a good idea. Looks like branford got some great shops to chose from John Lear - European Specialists

Burt at Shoreline Auto Service Rt 1 80 N Main St Branford. He is a Saab specialist, had has many parts for older saabs, like mine, that is how I found him. But he can fix any car. His garage is off the main road with trees all around so it is always quite pleasant if I have to wait for my car. He is online as www.shorelineautoservice dot com 203 488- 0615
