Republican Kurt Schwanfelder To Run For Branford First Selectman

The Board of Finance member says he is running because the rest of the crowded candidate pool lacks experience.

Republican Kurt Schwanfelder, 59, a member of the Branford Board of Finance who has long been involved in Branford politics, has announced he is running for First Selectman.

Last month, First Selectman Anthony "Unk" DaRos announced he would not be running for re-election this November. Since, Democrats Andy Campbell and Chris Sullivan, Republican Jamie Cosgrove and Independent Jacey Watt have all announced they will be running for First Selectman.

That field left Schwanfelder unimpressed. None of those candidates have enough experience, he told The Branford Eagle.

“Do I want to live and work in a town where there are neophytes running it?" Schwanfelder told The Branford Eagle. "They have no experience. They view the race as a popularity contest."

Schwanfelder, meanwhile, reeks experience. He served on the Branford Representative Town Meeting for 23 years, along with terms on the Board of Finance and numerous other offices, according to The Branford Eagle. He told The Eagle that experience will give him an edge.

“If elected I could start day one," Schwanfelder told The Eagle. "I have a fairly good rapport with all the department heads as it stands right now. I know the daily-ins-and-outs in how to keep the town moving."
