Release: Post-Storm Information Guide for Residents

Branford's Emergency Operation Center releases information regarding power and clean-up.

The Town of Branford is working closely with officials from Northeast Utilities to begin the tedious task of restoring the electrical power to our community. with crews from our and tree crews make downed power lines safe and removed fallen trees from our roadways.

Although there is no confirmed timeframe for complete restoration, we are hopeful to bring power back along state roadways and in areas of critical infrastructures. It would not be unreasonable for some town residents to be without power for over a week.

A town shelter is operational at the at 14 Brushy Plain Rd. that accepts pets as well. Those requiring sheltering should bring all bedding, food and medications for family members and pets. Pets are required to have cages. Sheltering locations may change in the future and residents may call 203-481-4241 for current shelter locations.

The town’s pick-up is on a one-day delayed schedule as similar to a Monday holiday schedule.

In addition, the town’s Transfer Station at 747 East Main. St. will be open all week until 6 p.m. including Saturday. Residents can bring debris from the storm to the Transfer Station or place it at the curb for future bulk pick-up.

Residents are reminded to:

  • Stay away from all downed power lines as many are energized
  • Stay away from all fallen trees
  • Please be cautious if using candles as light sources
  • Don’t drive, wade or swim in flooded areas
  • Clear any debris away from storm drains by your home

Branford’s First Selectman, Anthony “Unk” DaRos will be releasing more information after a Governor’s conference call at 3:30 p.m. today.
