Preview: Nearly $4 Million on the Table in Special RTM Session

Three committees will meet jointly to discuss the proposals.

Three RTM committees -- Education, Public Services and Ways & Means -- will meet jointly tonight in the Branford Police Community Room at 33 Laurel St., and several major allocations, totalling $3.7 million, are on the schedule for discussion.

The priciest is a recommendation from the Board of Finance that would put $2.05 million toward schools, mostly to repair roofs on Branford Hills, Mary T. Murphy and Mary R. Tisko schools. The measure would also include $150,000 in funding for a steam conservation system at Branford High School.

Another major proposal from Finance would allocate $1.65 million for a new communication system for police, public works and the waste water treatment plant commission. A much smaller proposal would put $35,000 toward an architectural redesign of the Board of Education offices at Frances Walsh Intermediate School.

The Public Services Committee will open the meeting at 7 p.m. to hear a separate series of items; the joint session, and discussion on the three proposals, begins at 7:30.
