More Than $27K Worth of Granite Taken From Quarry

Guilford man arrested for allegedly taking more than 100 tons of granite from Stony Creek Quarry.

arrested Dylan Ward, 41, of Guilford on March 18, for first-degree larceny stemming from an investigation regarding theft of granite from the .

On December 23, contacted the Branford Police, according to Captain Geoffrey Morgan, regarding the alleged theft of 100 to 130 tons of granite from town property at the end of Quarry Road.

Police Captain Geoffrey Morgan said Ward allegedly took $27,000 to $35,000 worth of granite stone. The stone was used, according to the police report, to construct a wall at another location. Ward is believed to be a landscaper.

Ward’s mother Michelle Ward owns the property that abuts the area where the granite was taken from. The granite is believed to have been located on an old railroad bed, which is on a town historic preservation site, stated Morgan.

Police state that the town tried to work with Ward to come to a resolution but ultimately could not.

Ward was released by Branford Police on a promise to appear and is due in New Haven court on March 27.
