Branford Town Green Changes Debated

More layers of bureaucracy feared

What’s in a name apparently a lot in Branford. The Town Green Committee is taking a lot of heat in its quest to move from a committee to a commission, the New Haven Register reports.

Such a move would grant the group a lot more power, including the ability to make budgetary requests and to regulate parking, the Register reports.

In May, 60 people attended a meeting on the proposal and about 20 people spoke out on the issue, the Register reports.

If the committee becomes a commission it would mean any changes to the Green would need its approval. Some issues with the Green are a lack of lightings and poor curbing and erosion control issues, the Register reports.

The biggest criticism concerning the proposed name change is it will add more layers of bureaucracy, the Register reports.
