Education Budget Takes Hit; Town Sees Small Increase to Budget

The mill rate will see an increase of 3.69 percent under the proposed 2011-12 budget.

After three lengthy budget workshops, the Board of Finance recommended Monday night a $94,040,109 budget for fiscal year 2011-12, which represents a 3.32 percent increase over current spending.

The mill rate of 24.44 for the proposed budget constitutes a 3.69 percent increase.

The Board of Education budget, which is part of the total proposed budget, was reduced to a 3 percent increase – the original recommendation from the Board of Education was a 3.68 percent increase. The Board of Education’s proposed budget will take the largest hit on capital expenditures; the total education amount approved by the BOF is $46,619,537.

On the town side, an additional $20,000 was added to its budget, bringing that total to $44,420,572.
