After 27 Years On The Job, Branford's Town Planner Stepping Down

Shirley Rasmussen is retiring at the end of the week.

Shirley Rasmussen, who has worked as the Branford Town Planner since 1986, has announced that she is retiring this Friday.

The Branford Eagle reports that Rasmussen, 67, said it was time to retire. She plans to spend her golden years traveling with her husband and visiting her family, which lives in California, Boston and Florida.

“I will miss it, but the more I thought about it, there are advantages to not working,” Rasmussen told the website. “It took me awhile to come to that conclusion …. But it’s time for a change for the town. A person can’t keep doing this forever. It’s time for the younger folks ...they have a lot to contribute. It’s time for a change.”
