Wife Arrested for Shoplifting; Husband Arrested Later for Breach of Peace

A North Branford woman allegedly takes nearly $250 of merchandise from Kohl's and husband blames cashier.

On June 1, Kristi A. Plano, 27, of North Branford was shopping at around 11 a.m. According to , Kristi was seen, by Kohl’s personnel, placing clothing–pants, shorts, ect…– in her shopping cart and then continuing to shop around the store adding additional items on top of the clothing.

When Kristi checked out, she paid for a portion of her purchases, said Branford Police, but neglected to place the clothing, totaling $234, onto the cashier’s counter.

Branford Police report that Kristi exited the store with the paid and unpaid merchandise and was stopped by a Kohl’s Loss Prevention Officer in the parking lot. Kristi was questioned by the officer and then Branford Police arrived and charged her with sixth degree larceny. Kristi was released on a promise to appear in New Haven court on June 14.

Just about an hour later, Krisit’s husband, Marc V. Plano, also of North Branford, arrived at Kohl’s according to Branford Police and created a disturbance. Branford Police said he refused to leave the store and wanted to know which cashier failed to ring up his wife’s full order leading to her arrest. Branford Police said Marc became loud and agitated and a crowd of shoppers stopped shopping and watched the scene. The Loss Prevention Officer, who was not named, called 911 and an off-duty, female police officer who was shopping at Kohl’s stepped in to assist until Branford officers could arrive–Branford Police said the report did not detail if the off-duty officer was a Branford officer.

The two officers were able to escort Marc from Kohl’s and he left in his truck. Branford Police stopped Marc at the Branhaven Plaza, Short Beach Road exit/entrance. Marc was charged with breach of peace and released on a promise to appear in  New Haven court on June 14.
