The State of the Branford Police Department

There's a lot going on downtown that you should know about.

The recently Branford Police Chief will leave his longtime post on Aug. 12 to take the position of Associate Professor for the University of New Haven, Lee College of Criminal Justice.

Since his retirement announcement, three candidates, Deputy Chief Thomas Fowler, Captain Geoffrey Morgan and Captain Kevin Halloran, have been vying for the job. They’ve recently taken written and oral tests administered by the South Central Criminal Justice Administration (SCCJA). On Aug. 16, the Branford Police Commission will conduct interviews with the candidates and then a decision by the commission will be made. The new post will be filled by Sept.1 according to DeCarlo. He did not say if there will be an interim chief between his departure on Aug. 12 and the official start of the new chief, Sept. 1.

In other new-hire news, Branford will be welcoming its third female officer to the force; she starts Aug. 12. Please check back for a story on her.
