State Police: 3 Fatalities, 4,600 Drivers Ticketed and 62 Arrested for DUI During Holiday Blitz

Police targeted drunk drivers and aggressive motorists statewide over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and investigated 410 accidents, including three that were fatal.

The Connecticut State Police were busy over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in their efforts to keep drivers safe although three wrecks ended in fatalities, including one Sunday night in North Haven where a 24-year-old North Haven resident lost his life. There were two fatalities during the same reporting period last year. 

Starting at midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and through Sunday, Nov. 25, police increased patrols across the state which included roving DUI patrols and use of the B.A.T. Mobile. 

The following are the final statistics from the holiday blitz:

Speeding: 1,611 

2011: 1,376

Seatbelt violations: 85

2011: 417

Hazardous moving violations (includes unsafe lane change, following too close, cell phone usage, failure to signal, etc.): 3,041

2011: 2,745

DUI Arrests: 62, including 3 arrests made by Troop F 

2011: 65

Accidents investigated: 410, including 59 with injuries and 3 fatals (I-691 in Southington; Route 8 in Beacon Falls; I-91 in North Haven)

2011: 389, including 50 with injuries and 2 fatals

Total calls for service: 10, 469
