Matthew Pagliaro Awaiting Possible Indictment for Alleged Armed Robbery of CVS

Twenty-five year old Branford resident , arrested on Aug.3 in Aberdeen, New Jersey for allegedly committing armed robbery of a CVS is still awaiting possible indictment according to Richard E. Incremona, First Assistant Prosecutor with Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Incremona said Pagliaro posted his surety bond for $155,000 from Monmouth County Correctional Institute on Aug. 6.

Pagliaro’s case has been assigned to a trial team pending grand jury presentation. As per New Jersey's court system, a grand jury of 23 people will review the case and decide whether or there is enough probable cause to believe that Pagliaro committed the crimes charged, explained Incremona. “If a majority votes that there is, then a “true bill” is returned and an indictment (the formal charging document) will be given to the defendant at an arraignment,” stated Incremona. At that point, Pagliaro can enter a plea. “If a majority votes that there is not probable cause, then a “no bill” is the designation and the case is over, unless there are surviving municipal offenses,” added Incremona. 

The date for the grand jury hearing is not released to the public according to Incremona. 

Pagliaro was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of prescription legend drugs stemming from the incident in early August.

The Matawan-Aberdeen Patch reported that Pagliaro allegedly went into CVS at about 7:15 p.m. on a Friday, Aug. 3 and approached the pharmacy counter where he passed a note to an employee saying that he was armed with a gun and was demanding oxycodone pills. Pagliaro then showed the employee the gun, Aberdeen Police stated. He was given the pills and left the store.

Police were called to the scene, where they were given a description of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle, a gray Toyota Prius with Connecticut plates, Police reported. Pagliaro was later taken into custody.

Pagliaro does not appear to have prior convictions or pending charges in the Connecticut judicial system.
