Man Arrested for Bike Theft and Evading Cab Fare in Same Day

Branford resident has a laundry list of arrests and is nabbed again for alleged theft in his own condo complex.

Yesterday at 5:40 a.m. John W. Kennedy, 26, of Branford was arrested for sixth-degree larceny when he allegedly stole a bicycle from a neighbor’s deck in the Hampton Park condo complex where he lives in the Hemlock Road condo complex area.

Later that morning at 9 a.m., Kennedy was arrested again when he evaded cab fare after being transported back to his condo; he was charged again with sixth-degree larceny.

did not have full details on the cab company or the amount of the fare. Captain Geoffrey Morgan said the cab driver reported the fare evasion to police after Kennedy fled from the vehicle.

Kennedy has been arrested numerous times by Branford Police on larceny charges and most recently for of a weapon in a motor vehicle on May 14. Recent prior arrests by Branford Police were on and .

“He’s certainly been the source of a number of complaints to the police concerning theft in that [Hemlock Hill condos] immediate area; a number of which he’s been arrested for.” said Morgan.

At a recent neighborhood watch meeting in the condo area, Kennedy, though not named by the residents, was the topic of discussion and frustration among several people in the group. He has been arrested many times on larceny charges and resides in the condo complex where the crimes are occurring. You can read more about the neighborhood meeting .

Kennedy has been found guilty of a felony charge stemming from a December, 11, 2008 arrest by Branford Police and was give three years probation. Since 2010, Kennedy has been convicted a number of times and has outstanding charges as well.

His court date for the most recent arrests has been set for July 19.
