Large Tree Falls On Chestnut Street Causing Power Outage

Road closed for several hours this morning.

This morning around 9 a.m. responded to the scene of a downed tree across Chestnut Street, behind . The tree, estimated to be more than 20 feet tall, fell across the road with the top landing in the yard of 185 Chestnut St.

Power was lost to several homes in the area. crews were on scene waiting to re-connect the powerline as soon as employees arrived to cut the tree. The estimated time for the road to re-open was 11 a.m.

Branford Fire Police secured the scene closing the road at Route 1 and Chestnut Street as well as at Short Rocks Road and the main entrance point for Branford . Hikers and walkers were welcomed to use the recreation area via Short Rocks Road but were not permitted to drive through to Chestnut Street.

It does not appear that anyone was injured. A full report regarding the cause of the incident should be available shortly.
