Intoxicated Man Pulled From Water After Hours of Hanging Onto Dock

Alert boaters responsible for saving man's life.

On Saturday evening at about 11:30 p.m. a group of alert boaters returning to their slip at noticed a man clinging to a dock and eventually pulled the man to safety.

Branford Police were contacted by a person on a boat being operated by Dr. Louis Iorio, who is a local orthopedic surgeon, after he and another friend pulled the man from the water. Police later determined that Louis Collins, 49, of an unknown address was intoxicated and fell from the dock earlier in the evening.

Officer Joseph Peterson, who investigated the incident, said that Collins had been in the water for at least a couple of hours. “He was cold, wet and certainly hypothermic,” Peterson continued. “If it wasn’t for the fast actions of Dr. Iorio, Mr. Collins could have lost his life.”

Collins was eventually treated by Branford Fire Department paramedics and transported to an area medical facility for evaluation.
