Intoxicated Female Driver Hits Reverse And Injures Police Officer

The incident took place during the long weekend's checks in a DUI Comprehensive Grant Program.

Sergeant Philip Ramey of the Branford Police Department was injured Sept. 2 after a vehicle he had stropped backed into the police cruiser he was operating.

According to a report from the department, the accident occurred on Commercial Parkway just before 8:30 p.m. as Sgt. Ramey was directing his efforts to combat intoxicated drivers over the holiday weekend. The efforts were part of a Department of Transportation funded DUI Comprehensive Grant Program.

The operator, Crystal Carreras, 20, of Montoya Drive in Branford was subsequently arrested for operating while under the influence of alcohol, under 21 years of age, after responding officers determined she was intoxicated while operating the vehicle.
