Hormuth Makes History as Branford Police Department's First Female Lieutenant

Kris A. Hormuth was sworn in as Branford Police Department's first femaie lieutenant on April 8.


Kris A. Hormuth made history at the Branford Police Department for the second time on April 8, 2013 as she was sworn in as the department's first female shift commander overseeing the evening patrol shift.

Chief Kevin Halloran swore in Hormuth – who has been in her position for about a week – before fellow officers, family and friends (see video).

The following biographical information was provided by the Branford Police Department. 

Kris A. Hormuth was appointed to the Branford Police Department on July 16, 1994. Prior to her employment in Branford, Hormuth, an Indiana native, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Indiana and served in the Connecticut National Guard.

As a recruit officer, she attended and later graduated from the Milford Police Academy. Upon her graduation, Officer Hormuth was assigned to the Patrol Division.

Hormuth was promoted to sergeant on May 5, 2008, making history as the department’s first female sergeant and was assigned as a Patrol Shift Supervisor. In addition to her duties as a patrol supervisor, Sergeant Hormuth's responsibilities included the administrative task of the department’s Pistol and Weapons Permits process.

Her promotion to the rank of Lieutenant again marked time in department history as the agency’s first female Shift Commander overseeing the evening patrol shift.

During her tenure at Branford Police Department, Hormuth has received numerous letters of appreciation, department commendations and awards, including the prestigious Distinguished Public Safety Award by thePolice Commissioners Association of Connecticut.
