Just before 1 p.m. today, an automatic fire alarm went off at , 61 N. Main St., which was closed for the holiday. arrived and searched the building, reported Branford Police Lt. Art Kohloff. No signs of fire were found.
After crews left, a bank employee arrived to review the camera surveillance footage and said she notices an unfamiliar person running up a stairwell in the bank, reported Kohloff.
responded to the scene and blocked off all entrances and exits to the building. Three officers searched the building for signs of a possible suspect. Kohloff said officers used an infrared pole camera to search a darkened hatchway. The device ensured safety of the officers in searching in dark conditions.
Branford’s was also brought in to search.
During the 20-minute search period, Kohloff said detectives were reviewing the film for clues about the possible suspect. “We couldn’t just wait and watch the video,” said Koholff. “We had to start searching.”
After reviewing the video footage, Police were ultimately able to determine that person running up the stairs was a Branford firefighter.
The building was clear just after 2:30 p.m.
