East Haven Man Arrested for People's Bank Armed Robbery

Branford Police, with assistance from East Haven Police, make an arrest for Thursday's alleged robbery of People's Bank.

Branford Police detectives arrested Rudolph Diaz, 30, of 16 Miami Street East Haven on Saturday evening for his involvement in this past Thursday’s (10/18/12) bank robbery of People’s Bank at 22 Leetes Island Rd.

Detective Lieutenant William Carroll, who supervised the investigation, said that Diaz became a suspect with the assistance of the East Haven Police Department. Carroll said, “This investigation moved swiftly through the investigative process with the assistance of the East Haven Police Department, whose officers worked closely with our investigators to determine the identity of Diaz.” Additionally, Carroll said that the New Haven Police department also assisted in the investigation.

Carroll said that the investigation is continuing and Diaz’s accomplice has been identified. “We are following up on leads and interviews and I believe an arrest will be imminent.” said Carroll.

Chief Kevin Halloran complemented the investigators, “Partnerships in these types of investigations are paramount to the speedy apprehension of criminals,” Halloran continued, “whether it be our law enforcement partners as in this investigation, or our citizen partners who report crimes and tips.”

Diaz was charged with first degree robbery, third-degree larceny, conspiracy, and criminal weapon possession. He was held on a $300,000 bond and will be arraigned in New Haven Court today.
