Couple Robs People's Bank in Branford Stop & Shop

Police report an alleged robbery took place this afternoon at the People's Bank in Branford Stop & Shop. No one injured. Suspects possibly still at large.

This afternoon just before 2 p.m. Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran confirmed there was a robbery at the People's United Bank in Branford Stop & Shop at 22 Leetes Island Road. An undisclosed amount of money in 50s and 100s was taken, reported Halloran.

Police believe a female and male team in their 20s may have displayed a small revolver to the staff at People's Bank at the time of the robbery. Halloran said it is unclear if the gun was real or not. No one was injured.

Branford Police stated in a press release: "One suspect is described as a white male, about 25-40 years old, 6’ tall, short hair with a chin-strap style beard, wearing a baseball cap, a long sleeved brown and white flannel button down shirt and a white tee shirt underneath and blue jeans. The other suspect is described as a white female, 20-30 years old, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and/or jacket with red on the rear and sleeves and eye glasses."

The couple apparently fled in a dark-colored pick-up truck with a ladder rack and a loud muffler. Police believe they headed to the I-95 south entrance ramp at exit 56. Following the incident police were investigating a dark pick-up truck at the Home Depot in East Haven. East Haven Police were also on scene there as well.

“I didn’t know anything happened,” stated Stop & Shop employee Casey McKernan who was working during the incident. Other employees agreed that the robbery was quiet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Branford Police Department at 203-481-4241 or contact the Branford Crime Tip Line at 203-315-3909.

The incident remains under investigation according to Police.
