Calf Hunt Continues; Video Shows Man Stealing Donations; and More

When crime is weird, wild or just plain ridiculous, you'll find it in OMG PD.

MILFORD – The hunt is on for a calf that reportedly jumped a fence to avoid the slaughterhouse.

Authorities say they believe the calf, which could weigh up to 400 pounds, came from an unspecified farm in Orange. The black calf has been spotted a few times in Milford, but it’s still on the loose.

The calf does not have a name, but some readers are offering some suggestions. What’s yours?

BRANFORD – Eleven people aboard a 23-foot boat were rescued near the Thimble Islands July 11 after their vessel broke down and crashed into rocks along the shore.

The boat can safely carry about eight people, and there were only a couple of life jackets aboard, according to someone on the boat. No injuries were reported and the 11 passengers were brought to shore by a local couple and emergency responders.

One of the passengers is a detective with the New Haven Police Department; she was not working at the time.

HAMDEN – The man who police say stabbed his dog 29 times did not accept a plea deal Tuesday that would have required him to serve 60 days in jail, according to his public defender. And he is now requesting a new attorney.

Hamden Patch has all the details.
