Breaking Ground

The new Branford Fire Department Headquarters is becoming a reality.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on the site on the new yesterday morning, with many town and department folks proudly in attendance including the building committee, Board of Fire Commissioners and First Selectman Anthony "Unk" DaRos.

Led by fire chief Jack Ahern, a pledge of allegiance was recited followed by a benediction by Father Kevin Donovan and remarks from DaRos and the Chair of the Board of Fire Commissioners, Robert Massey, Jr. Finally the official ground breaking was executed by all three along with Branford Town Engineer Janice Plaziak.

The fire headquarters project is a 12.5-million, 34,000-square-foot state-of-the-art building that will become a place of business, work and community meeting. Completion date is planned for May of 2012.
