Branford Welcomes Two New Police Officers

Branford son and Oxford daughter join Branford force.

“Our community will see the faces of two new officers,” said Chief Kevin Halloran. “Officers Marc Andrew and Ashley Vaughn are recent graduates of the police academy and they represent some of the finest young adults that policing has to offer. I’m certain they well serve our community well throughout their careers.”

Officer Marc Andrew is 31 years old and a native of North Branford. He is the son of Thomas and Janet Andrew who are the owners of , a popular Branford restaurant. Officer Andrew attended Notre Dame High School and holds a B.S. Degree from Springfield College. He had been involved in the North Branford Volunteer Fire Department for about ten years prior to starting his employment in Branford.

Andrew joined the in 2006 as an E-911 Telecommunicator, working in Branford’s Central Dispatch Center, assigned mostly to the busy 4 p.m. to midnight shift. In April 2011 he was hired as a recruit officer and attended the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) 333rd. Training Academy Class which graduated at the end of September 2011. Officer Andrew has also completed in excess of 400 hours of field training with specialized Field Training Officers (FTO’s) and is currently assigned to the midnight to 8 a.m. shift. Officer Andrew said, “As I began my work as a Telecommunicator, I became more interested in the Law Enforcement field. I transitioned my health and physical ability by losing almost 80 lbs. to become an officer and thank Lt. Art Kohloff for the encouragement. I look forward to a wonderful career here in Branford.”

Officer Ashley Vaughn is 23 years old and a native of Oxford. She is the daughter of Debbie and Marc Feldmeier. Officer Vaughn attended St. Joseph High School in Trumbull and holds a B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice from Stonehill College.

Vaughn joined the Branford Police Department in July 2011 and attended the POST 334th. Training Academy Class, graduating just last week. Prior to her employment with Branford, Vaughn worked for over a year on Nantucket Island as a Community Service Officer. Officer Vaughn said, “Although both of my parents are in the medical profession, I became introduced to law enforcement by a family friend who is a Bridgeport Captain. I worked for him briefly as a teenager doing undercover alcohol enforcement and have been in love with the Law Enforcement profession ever since.”

Vaughn began her field training Saturday with FTO Josef Herten and is expected to complete the training in just over 10 weeks.
