Branford School Bus Accident Leads to Minor Injuries for Students

The school bus driver reported being cut-off by another motor vehicle, which required her to abruptly stop the bus, according to Branford Fire Department officials.

The following is a press release from the Branford Fire Department.

The Branford Fire Department responded to 869 West Main St. today (Wednesday) at 1:46 p.m. for a report of injured school children on a school bus.

Upon arrival crews from Medic-1 and Medic-2 were confronted with a loaded school bus with approximately 30 elementary students aboard several of which were claiming some minor injuries.

The bus driver reported being cut-off by another motor vehicle and she had to abruptly stop the bus.

Paramedics quickly assessed the students and began to treat students which claimed injury.

In total Branford Paramedics treated 9 children for minor bumps and bruises. No students required transport to a medical facility.

The Branford Board of Education was immediately contacted by officials and representatives from Mary T. Murphy School responded including the principle and school nurse.

With a coordinated effort all parents were contacted including those parents whose children were not injured and they were all released without further incident. 

The Branford Police Department is continuing the investigation into the incident.
